Abraham Hulk Senior Anglo-Dutch, 1813-1897

Born in London, he was the senior member, and the best known, of a family of Hulks who were painters. He studied in the Amsterdam Academy, and was a pupil of Jean Augustin Daiwaille, the portrait painter.

He was a master of atmosphere in romantic calms but really a rather meretricious painter, considering how sought-after his work is. He exhibited at amsterdam, The Hague and Leeuwarden between 1843 and 1868, and at the Royal Academy in London in 1876 and 1890.
