Florence, also known as Frances, Mabel Hollams was a popular British painter of horses and dogs, producing many portraits in the 1920s and 1930s. She typically painted her subjects on wooden panels with no background, so that the grain of the wood remains visible. She studied at the Calderon School of Animal Painting and, at a time when most schools did not accept female students, studied in Paris at the Académie Julian. She was also among the first female artists to exhibit at the Royal Academy, exhibiting eight paintings, and in 1899 was elected to the Society of Women Artists. She also exhibited with Arthur Ackermann and Son.

Hollams is represented in multiple National Trust collections and in the Leicestershire Museums’ collection.
