Joseph Walter 1783-1856

As well as ship portraits Walter recorded such events as the floating out of the Great Britain in 1843, and the last of three paintings which were exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1836 and 1847, is of the Spanish Armament of 1790; that is to say the Channel Fleet at Spithead that year, under Admiral Lord Howe.

Walter seems to have lived and worked all his life in Bristol.
