Carl Friedrich Werner, RI German, 1808-1894

Carl Werner studied painting and architecture in Leipzig and Munich before winning a scholarship to continue his artistic training in Italy. He remained there after completing his studies and established a studio in Venice, where he worked as a watercolour painter. He frequently travelled around Europe and the Middle East to paint, and built particularly strong connections in London, where he often exhibited at the New Watercolour Society. Werner eventually returned to Leipzig, where he taught at the Leipzig Academy up to his death.
