Edward Seago was raised in East Anglia and studied under Sir John Arnesby Brown absorbing many of the principles of the Norwich School. However, while his themes were rooted in traditional British art, his distinctive technique and approach brought a fresh and innovative vision to rural, urban, and marine subjects. His paintings are celebrated for their fluidity, spontaneity, and ability to capture the fleeting mood of a scene—vibrant or tranquil—with remarkable sensitivity. Though largely self-taught, Seago refined his art through study of British masters such as Constable, receiving brief guidance from Sir Alfred Munnings.
A favourite of the British Royal Family, Seago was commissioned to paint the Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation and accompanied the HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on an Antarctic expedition. The two men often painted together aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, forming a lasting friendship.
